The Benicia Historical Museum offers educational tours of the Camel Barn Complex.

The tours start at the Museum containing exhibits that recount the history of the city of Benicia and the first Military Arsenal of the West Coast. These exhibits reflect the past and the future of our town.

The tour continues at the Powder Magazine, This magazine was built in 1857 from native sandstone by French stonemasons. It contains a military exhibit and it is available for viewing only by appointment.

Students will then be shown the bow section of the Galilee. The Galilee was one of the more significant seagoing vessels built at the Matthew Turner Shipyards in Benicia.
To complete the tour, we have a set of hands-on activities that encourage students to imagine life in the mid 1800s.
