Ground Opening
Ceremony
Tuesday, May 29, 2007

Long time supporters Catherine and Paul Spenger retired in Benicia
after having a very successful restaurant business. They were very
active in the Museum. Their relatives and friends realized their
dedication to the Museum and after their deaths donated money to the
Museum for a memorial to them. The fund grew to $75,000 with an
additional grant.

The Board of Directors decided that a fitting memorial would be a garden
in their honor.
The City as landlord had been encouraging more landscaping around the
complex. So, plans were drawn and redrawn over the span of seven years.
Because of changes in personnel, more pressing issues and a myriad of
other reasons, the delay was prolonged.
Now, at last, the final drawings are done and the work is about to
commence. with native plants and other flora.
We believe the Catherine and Paul Spenger Memorial Garden will be a
grand way to remember these faithful supporters. It is hoped that the
Garden will open in late summer. The public will be invited to the
dedication.
