Through the years of its existence the
Benicia Historical Museum has been engaged in different projects to
bring history alive to our community, as well as to preserve
the Camel Barns Complex .
Project Galilee started when a portion of the bow
of the once magnificent 180-foot brigantine was brought to Benicia in
1987. The Galilee was built at the Matthew Turner Shipyard in
Benicia in 1891.
In the seek of
preserving, another maritime addition to the Museum was the "Scampo" a
fishing boat from the 1920s to mid 1930s. The Scampo that was donated to
the museum by Joe Garske and it is now a new project looking for shelter
and protection to be admired by future generations. |
