A very rare photo, which is thought to be dated at 1856, show's First Street as it looked in the early years. The picture shows dirt streets but boardwalks on either side. The view is looking north up the street toward the State Capitol, visible in the background.  Notice the bare grass hills and what a stark difference from the appearance of the view of today.
