One of the best loved of the Benicia pioneers.  He arrived in August of 1847 with a cargo of goods from Hawaii to stock his store which he originally planned to open in San Jose.  Semple convinced him to settle in Benicia instead.  After a short time in the gold mines, he settled down in Benicia until his death.
